FRANCOIS VAN COKE Presents New Music Video: Die Wêreld is Mal (The World is Crazy)

In this insane world where there is only so much we can control, only love anchors, comforts and keeps us sane.

'Die wêreld is mal' (The world is crazy) is a heartfelt ballad by FRANCOIS VAN COKE that underscores this sentiment.

Since the launch of his second solo album, 'Hierdie is die Lewe', there has been a lot of hype and positive feedback for this track. 'Die wêreld is mal', has been downloaded the most without being pushed as a single or marketed with a music video.

This song delivers hope and focusses on love in a time where it is easy to see only the negative.

“Junk status, the downgrade of our credit rating, Zuma clinging to power, Donald Trump is the president of the USA, people are killing each other in the name of religion, nuclear threats from North Korea... The world has gone crazy, but hopefully, the people close to us can keep us sane,” says Francois.

Francois, with the help of Converse, is very proud to present a music video as beautiful and as gripping as the song.

Watch 'Die wêreld is mal' below!

Excerpt from lyrics (translated from Afrikaans):

Die world is insane

Complex and vulnerable

People falling over each other

The world is insane

You are the exception

Because the world is insane.

FRANCOIS VAN COKE is Playing it Forward - I Love You All the Time (& other news)

*News about the Play It Forward campaign, Toe Vind Ek Jou Live DVD out soon & Relate bracelets for Vrede Foundation fundraising.*

fvk hayden phipps

Photographer: Hayden Phipps

Play It Forward

After the atrocious attacks in Paris on November 13, 2015, The Eagles of Death Metal issued a challenge to other musicians to cover their song I Love You All The Time.

“For every cover sold, we pledge to donate 100% of the publishing income to The Sweet Stuff Foundation. We ask that you also donate the money generated from sales of the song to the charity.” - apple.co/1nQz2v1

Because Francois believes unifying and healing power of music, he felt moved by this plea to help raise funds for the victims of the Paris attacks and followed suit.

“I felt that I wanted to be a part of the Play It Forward campaign because I was touched by the attacks at the Eagles of Death Metal show.  I also feel a bit of a connection with the band because we played with them when they were in South Africa.

I am a huge fan of the band and I Love You All the Time was my favourite song on their new album.  It was an honour to record this song.”

Francois’ stripped down and pure version of I Love You All the Time was recorded with Theo Crous at Bellville Studios.  Jedd Kossew played guitar on the track.

He translated the French part of the original version into Afrikaans: “I translated the French part to Afrikaans to make it more my own, plus my French pronunciation would’ve been bad.”

Francois’ version of I Love You All the Time can be purchased from iTunes: apple.co/1nQz2v1

Toe Vind Ek Jou Live DVD – available from 8 February

Great news!  Francois van Coke and Karen Zoid’s super fantastic live DVD, Toe Vind Ek Jou, will hit the stores on the 8th of February 2016.

The show could only be seen on BoxOffice for a period at the end of 2015, but the demand was so huge that DVDs had to be manufactured and made available for fans to purchase.

This collector’s item is packed with beautiful rock ‘n roll moments shared between two of South African rock’s greatest.  The popular Toe Vind Ek Jou live shows are regularly sold out, so this DVD serves as the perfect keepsake and gift for fans.

Relate Bracelets: Francois raises funds for the Vrede Foundation

The Vrede Foundation – founded by Herman Pretorius, who lost his battle with cancer eight days before his 30th birthday in 2009 – is dedicated to raising awareness, early detection, as well as funds for young South Africans with cancer.

South African rock legend and Pretorius’ close friend, Francois Van Coke has partnered with Relate Bracelets to sell a bespoke Relate bracelet to raise funds for the Vrede Foundation.

On his involvement with the Vrede Foundation, Van Coke says: “Herman and I have a long history. From playing in bands together in high school in the 90s to being part of the rise of the Bellville rock scene in the 2000s, he was truly my blood brother. His death was a blow not only to those of us who knew him and the South African rock scene, but also to the people he was reaching through the Vrede Foundation. Partnering with Relate on this bracelet is the least I can do to honour him, his legacy, and the message he was trying to deliver.”

The Francois van Coke Relate Bracelet, retailing at R50, will be launched on 18 February in Cape Town (Fire & Ice Cape Town) & 23 February in Pretoria (Fire & Ice Menlyn), when Van Coke performs a FREE acoustic show.

The bracelets will also be on sale at all of Francois’ 2016 shows and concerts.

Francois van Coke & Karen Zoid at Kirstenbosch

Kirstenbosch is well known for its great line up of artists and when I was invited to listen to the Francois van Coke & Karen Zoid gig, I must admit I was slightly unsure. Being a skeptical non-Afrikaans speaking British person I didn’t think it would be "my scene". Well let’s just say I was completely wrong…

fvc karen zoid kirstenbosch 17 Jan 2016 antonet visser kim aitkin

Photos by Antonet Visser

This review is about Francois van Coke, who completely changed my view on Afrikaans music and is in my opinion one of the best Afrikaans male artists and entertainer.

As soon as Francois van Coke entered the stage, I thought…”Ok, let’s see what this guy has to offer” and he wasn’t going to disappoint!

fvc karen zoid kirstenbosch 17 Jan 2016 antonet visser kim aitkin1Even though I couldn’t always understand what he was saying (purely based on my lack of Afrikaans) I could still feel and hear every word of desperation, every honest & raw moment that he must have experienced when he wrote the lyrics and music. He was taking us all on a journey through HIS personal experience and I was more than happy to be his passenger…

I knew this man standing in front of me was a true showman. The audience captivated by every microphone swing (his trademark it seemed), head bang, shear passion with every word he sang, but what mostly caught my attention was his sincere gratitude and politeness. This guy had no personal agenda or ego, he wanted to give you the best show possible.

The collaboration between Francois van Coke & Karen Zoid seemed to be the highlight among the audience and I could see why. They both looked like they had been best of friends for years and it truly showed in the couple of duets they did together.

I must say, it takes something or someone very special to capture my attention for a long period of time without there being any lulls of boredom or moments of mediocrity, but this guy nailed it on the head and I could have carried on watching him all night long!

As soon as I got home, the day was not even over and I was already searching for his next live show date.

I look forward to seeing more of what this man has to offer in the future!

Covering this song is quite personal for Van Coke Kartel. Francois van Coke says that Johannes Kerkorrel and Koos Kombuis’ music was the only Afrikaans music they listened to growing up and the only thing they felt they identified with. Back in the day, Wynand used to be the sound engineer at some of Kerkorrel’s theatre shows.

NEW Single By THE VANILLA To Be Released Soon

The Vanilla - Photo By: Nadine Aucamp

The next single to be released soon by THE VANILLA is both as euphonious in flavourful sound and rhythms as this 4-piece feel-good pop band’s name. Band members, Tyan Odendal (guitar and lead vocals), Jaen-Pierre Dowling (bass), Francois Keyser (drums) and Barthlo Visagie (lead guitar and synth), are planning to serve up the ultimate summer ballad with their next highly anticipated single, Little Thoughts.

Their latest track doesn’t disappoint and is jam-packed with galvanizing synth and catchy guitar riffs that will light up a crowd at any sunset soirée this summer. The single was inspired by the unpredictable ways of an all too familiar human emotion, love. Composers, Tyan Odendal and Dolf Willemse describes the narrative of the lyrics as, “the story of a younger girl cheating on her boyfriend with a much older guy. She falls madly in love with her new Romeo, but he has no intentions of sticking around.” Summing up that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side - a phenomenon that they feel a couple of guys their age has either personally gone through and can relate to.

THE VANILLA are planning to bring this next single out with a bang next week with a digital release on Soundcloud and Band Camp. Fans can stay updated on The Vanilla’s social pages.

The funkadelic foursome have enjoyed a notably quick, but steady climb in the local music industry to become one of the best new acts in SA since their debut in March this year. They have performed at some of the most prestigious venues in Cape Town, played with various big-name artists and secured great performance slots at 3 music festivals (OppiKoppi, Up The Creek & River Republic).

This coming Friday, fans can catch The Vanilla performing at The Assembly with FRANCOIS VAN COKE and DIE HEUWELS FANTASTIES. facebook.com

Make sure you stay tuned to get a taste of The Vanilla’s latest single 'Little Thoughts' to be released soon. It’s sure to be worth the wait.

FRANCOIS VAN COKE presents: Die Skip Featuring Laudo Liebenberg ‪

Laudo Liebenberg & Francois van Coke

FRANCOIS VAN COKE releases the third music video from his self-titled debut album today.  Die Skip (The Ship) may sound upbeat with its cheerful melody, but the song’s leading man is on a self-destructive journey with love as his only lifeline. Laudo Liebenberg joins Francois for a cruise on this three-minute-thirty-second boat party.

The sound of Francois, Laudo and Jedd Kossew’s harmonic vocals, accompanied by soulful rhythm and guitar tones, is reminiscent of an island holiday.
