Keeping the momentum going in 2019, Berlin-based James Hersey shares the exceptional single ‘My People’, a collaborative track with South African singer-songwriter Jeremy Loops, out now via Glassnote Records. Catch both artists live as they hit the stage at Roundhouse, London on February 16th – tickets on sale now.
Co-written by Hersey and Loops, ‘My People’ is a gloriously upbeat indie-pop track which compliments both artist’s unique vocals as they flow back and forth, then congregate on the infectious chorus over the guitar-led production. Jeremy Loops previously won MTV Africa's Award for ‘Best Alternative Album’ and has supported the likes of Twenty One Pilots, Rebelution and Milky Chance on tour, with praise from the likes of Consequence of Sound, Red Bull, CLASH and Baeble.
On ‘My People’ James Hersey explains “Jeremy and I both lead lives that require us to spend a lot of time away from home. "My People" is a homage not to the places we come from, but to the people there that keep us coming back”
On working with Hersey, Jeremy Loops says “James and I had a jam session at my house in Cape Town the day after we first met. It was effortless and so much fun, we kept saying we need to connect on a track together. It took two years to come to fruition, but I couldn't be prouder of 'My People', and I'm equally amped to have James supporting us on the road this year.”
‘My People’ follows on from James’ well-received singles ‘Real For You’ and ‘Let Go’ ft filous that came out late last year and Hersey’s successful debut EP ‘Pages’, released back in 2017. James has racked up more than 350M streams on Spotify alone and has gained support from the likes of Radio 1 DJs Annie Mac (who named James one of her ‘New Names’), Mistajam, Adele Roberts, Cel Spellman, and Maz Tappuni (Communion). Hersey has also received accolades from top tastemaker publications including The Telegraph, Wonderland, The Line Of Best Fit, CLASH, DIY, Idolator, EARMILK, Red Bull, and tmrw Mag. For many, ‘Coming Over’ is the track that launched Hersey’s international recognition after dance heavyweights filous, Kygo and Dillion Francis reworked the track. Filous’ remix of ‘Coming Over’ now has over 52M Spotify streams. James previously performed at British Summer Time and The Great Escape and has supported Sigrid and LANY in the UK and Scandinavia, as well as Milky Chance, HONNE and recently Metric on their European tours.
Vienna born James continues to prove that he is an outstanding talent unfolding, who’s building an undeniably impressive collection of work. Hersey’s set to ramp things up this year with the release of his highly anticipated second EP ‘Innerverse’ out soon.
