JHBLive Office Sessions | Live Music and Edgy Mobile Technology

By / Features / Friday, 08 September 2017 13:06

Last month Satanic Dagga Orgy, Adventure Man and Tonjy Bala took their collective live music prowess to the unusual venue of 32 Bompas Road, Dunkeld. Day to day, 32 Bompas Road houses the hard working crew who manage Jozi’s longest running online magazine, JHBLive, and its sister company, Content Bar. Lately, thanks to the unique Office Sessions events, space has also become a hybrid of laid back live music and edgy mobile technology.

Each of the Office Sessions features a headline artist and a supporting act. The idea behind the sessions is to promote independent, instrumental and folk music to local and international audiences. The Office Sessions take place every two weeks, with select JHBLive followers and entertainment industry figures invited to each session.

At the centre of the upcoming sessions is a revolutionary new app that allows audience members to sync a direct feed from the sound desk into the video they’re shooting on their phone. The entire audience can, therefore, help the artist record the show, with a huge range of footage being used in the final cut of the session. At the individual level, audience members also have access to an audio feed able to match the video quality of their phone – finally resolving the dilemma of whether to bother filming anything at all if you can’t get decent sound.

The innovation comes thanks to a partnership between Content Bar and Israeli company ClipAisle, who developed the technology.

JHBLive started the Office Sessions as an experimental project able to give bands access to high-quality videos of their work, inclusive of sound. It has quickly evolved into a mechanism for artists to get live music out to fans around the world, in real-time. Footage of sessions is live streamed and then staged on an online channel where fans can enjoy the full performances broken into separate tracks, as well as compiled into a session playlist.

In addition to the intimate sessions, JHBLive will also hold a large Office Sessions gathering event every 3 months, featuring selected guests. These sessions will take place on a Sunday at the company’s Dunkeld office gardens, and will be open to the public.

Join the JHBLive team on the 13th of September for their next Office Session via live stream on Facebook.
