Calling all ALTERnatives! (and lovers of good music alike)
An exciting (and long overdue) all-day Cape Town music festival featuring 11 live acts of various Alternative extractions is set to reverberate through Hillcrest Quarry on Sunday 26 August 2018!
Alternative music comes in many shades and incarnations, ignores convention and pretence, and delivers a pure music experience that is not repellant as some ill-informed may believe.
This eclectic and diverse line-up of 11 bands & artists (finding themselves very often defying genre-conventions) will unite to offer a true live entertainment alternative.
The line-up includes
Hard Rock Grunge
(from Gauteng - last show of their Cape Town tour)
Post-Rock / Electro-Rock
(last show of the 16th anniversary Duality Tour)
Industrial-Rock / Alternative-Metal
Instrumental Progressive Post-Rock
Grime / Drumstep / Hardstyle DJ set
THE SWEET RESISTANCE
THE MEDICINE DOLLS
Post-Punk / Garage Rock
THE ShhART ENSEMBLE
String & Piano Trio
Dark Folk / Acoustic Goth / Neo-Folk
THYLASINE (live debut)
DJs Nytrox and Myster-i will spin a wide variety of alternative favourites in between band sets.
All food and beverage facilities will be on site
+ an ATM and child friendly area.
Tickets: a mere R120 at Quicket
R150 at the door
(Early bird tickets until 1 August: R100)

Since RAMfest sadly called it quits, other events strictly dance-oriented, or much heavier like the excellent Metal4Africa events, and many not exactly as 'Rock' as they proclaim, a vacuum for a festival lay dormant where a wide range of Alternative styles (covering an extensive spectrum) can let loose.
And here it is!
Being #WomensMonth you'll also note that no less than 5 acts are female-fronted with another two sporting multi-gendered line-ups.
With the convergence of Dionysius Events, the Terminatryx 16th anniversary 'Duality Tour', and Polar Dust's 'Burning Water Tour', what was to be a regular show exploded into a full day festival with a rarely assembled collection of amazing acts on one stage, and with the affiliation of Flamedrop's documentaries currently in production (looking at the SA Alternative music scene and its history) entitled ALTERnatives, the festival got its name!
Straight, to the point, nothing cryptic.
This is the first of what is set to be an annual event and is not to be missed.
A decade down the line, you'll want to say, "I was at the very first ALTERnatives music festival!"
