Joburg-based band Polar Dust is hitting the Mother City like the good old Cape Doctor in August. The band will bring their mix of post-punk and electro-rock to Capetonians for the first time on 24, 25 and 26 August during their The Burning Water tour.
Polar Dust was originally formed by South African, Sara Eksteen, in Reykjavik, Iceland in 2006 and made their debut at the Lung-A festival in 2008 in Seyðisfjörður, Iceland. After 7 years of exploring the Icelandic music scene and culture, front person Sara, returned to her homeland South Africa and reformed the band in 2010.
The lineup consists of Leon Calvyn Kemp on drums, Sara X on vocals and guitars, Rhett Freeman on bass and Johan Vos on guitars. Finally, after a long journey of crafting and perfecting the album with producer Jon Buckley (New Academics, Jo Day, Toxic Shame, The Awakening) Polar Dust's debut album 'Into The Burning Water' was released in November 2014. The band is currently working on their second album but has not decided on a release date.
The band is excited and can’t wait for their invasion of Cape Town. Sara says: “I’m really excited to embark on the Cape Town music scene. It’s the first time I’m going to play close to the ocean since having started the band in Reykjavik.”
Polar Dust will kick off their tour at Sgt. Pepper on Friday 24 August, on Saturday (25 August) they will be at Trenchtown alongside Terminatryx and Holo, and they will end their tour on Sunday (26 August) at the Alternatives Festival. This event features the following stellar line-up: Polar Dust, Lithium, Terminatryx, Ohgod, Grimehouse, Mark Haze, The Sweet Resistance, The Medicine Dolls, The ShhART Ensemble, Isobel and Thylasine.
