Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ruby June is loving life in Cape Town. Her music is a combination of indie-folk and rock music infused with some tasty South African undertones. Major musical influences include Karen Zoid, Freshlyground, Jack Johnson and the church band she grew up listening to.
“My mother used to play the keyboard in our local church years ago. I remember going to rehearsals, always amazed by how good the band all sounded. I remember how badly I wanted to play the guitar.” After playing the piano as a young girl and finding it to be not quite to her liking, her parents bought her first guitar, and she never looked back.
Born and raised in Mossel Bay by a family with a love for music, she was exposed to a large variety of South African rock bands that the family would listen to in the car on long road trips. It wasn’t long till she headed off to Cape Town, guitar in hand, ready to conquer the world.
Ruby June has, along with her band, played all over Cape Town and surrounds and entertained and enthralled many excited crowds. The band has never been afraid to work hard and keep at it in an ever-changing South African music industry.
Ruby June is the product of years of dreaming, writing and singing and 2017 holds the promise of more music, more soul and more Ruby.
