Last Week Friday, June 5th 2020 saw the release of Cherry Vynil's new single, 'Simunye – We Are One' and can be found on the following streaming platforms

“Very cool vibe guys. Great hook. Love the feels.” Ard Matthews, Just Jinger.

This Cape Town-based Indie Rock band started out in June 2008, premiering onstage at the V&A Waterfront shortly following their establishment - their first album, Busking Cape Town, launched in 2015.

Cherry Vynil performs regularly at many hotspots - Mojo Market in Sea Point, Jack Black Breweries, Kapstadt Brauhaus, Aces & Spades, Jackson Hall at Grand West Casino and Snowflake in Potchefstroom.

The band has shared the stage with South Africa’s much-loved bands Freshly Ground and Prime Circle.

The inspiration behind 'Simunye – We Are One'

Frontman, Vickus Horn, had quite a trip down memory lane while writing this song – rediscovering his roots and pride for his country. What better way to celebrate and tribute than with a proudly South African song.

“As a young boy, the love for people was created through my family who is dedicated to serve others.  My dad supplying water to rural areas in Kwazulu-Natal and Mom pouring her heart out as a teacher – many friends were made in all walks of life in our beautiful, diverse, country.”

"Simunye – We Are One".

"Therefore, only together can our country rise".

"Let’s work together on a song that inspires oneness".

"Rise with us!"

Cherry Vynil, the story behind the name

Vickus explains: “When we had to think of a band name, a friend of mine mentioned that his friends had a band in the UK called ‘Paper Radio’, I really liked the contrast of the two words and started playing with names like 'Cherry Velvet' and 'Vinyl Cherries'.  In the end, Cherry Vynil stood out and we went with that. When designing our first logo, the spelling accidentally came out 'Cherry Vynil' instead of the traditional “Vinyl” we decided back then that this was a twist of fate and kept this ‘backward’ spelling.”
