A new single titled ‘Arm’ off Julanie J`s 2020 album release MOOI, is a light-hearted, love-letter-tune that Julanie wrote to her husband, a few years ago when they were engaged to be married. Jacaranda FM, OFM, Grootfm, Bok Radio, Radio Rosestad, Pukfm and IFM are among the various stations that are currently playing this catchy track.

A Music video for ‘Arm’, in which JP stars with Julanie, has just been released. The video was shot in a small flat in Cape Town, encapsulating the essence of a young couple that are building a home together.

Says Julanie: “The song is very personal. I wrote it for him, so it would have been strange for me to make the video with an actor in his role. The song is about how we are very much the opposites of each other, but these differences make our relationship work. Also, it is the little things that makes one fall in love and stay in love. I really enjoyed shooting with JP. Even though he is not used to being in front of the cameras, he got the ropes of it in no time. Now he also realizes what I meant when I once told him that making videos is hard work. The crew was amazing.  All in all, it was an incredible day.”

Julanie believes that songs like ‘Arm’ are much needed in these strange times that we are living in. “The song is about joy and love and with its tongue in the cheek approach, it can make a tough moment just a little softer. We can all do with some breather moments right now. Hope everyone enjoys listening to the song as much as I enjoyed writing it.”

‘Arm’ follows on the success of the single 'Liefde wat ons heelmaak', that Julanie recorded with the popular Afrikaans singer Ivan Roux. Previous hits 'Dalk is Ek', 'Sandkastele' and 'Gegrond' are also available on the album MOOI.

More about Julanie J:

Julanie J is a young, talented singer/songwriter, originally from Cape Town, South Africa. At just 21, she signed a major label deal with Warner Music South Africa. Her first Afrikaans single Dalk is Ek was released in July 2019. It was playlisted on various commercial and community radio stations and reached the number one position on CCFM `s Top 10 Charts. A second single Sandkastele was released a few months later, in October 2019. In the light of the release of these two singles, People magazine named her “South Africa`s new pop princess” and Huisgenoot Magazine mentioned in a review that Julanie is an exciting new artist to follow.

A third single titled 'Gegrond' was released in April 2020 and was followed by Julanie`s first full- length Afrikaans album release MOOI in September 2020.

Julanie is no stranger to the music business. She grew up in a very musical family and recalls writing her first song at the age of four. Having Christian roots, she released her first album in 2016 entitled Spirit Breakout, for which she received a Best Newcomer nod at the Mzansi Christian Awards.

Julanie, already an accomplished songwriter, has written songs for various recording artists, including Lokua Kanza, Helmut Meijer AKA Calev and Namibia’s Sanet Lambrecht.

In 2017 Julanie was appointed as an ambassador of Ster-Kinekor’s ‘Vision Mission’, a philanthropic project aimed at assisting children suffering from eyesight difficulties, a struggle Julanie herself battled with as a child. She says: “Through my experiences as a child, I learned that there is still a great stigma around wearing spectacles, and I want to use this platform to encourage children to accept themselves as they are and wear their glasses, so they can excel in everything they do.”

Julanie lives in Johannesburg with her husband, the sound engineer JP Chetty.
