'Toe Die Wêreld Stil Gaan Staan' – Karen Zoid with Neil Sandilands and Early B.

En toe sien ek weer die berge
En toe sien ek weer die maan
Daar was geen ridders op wit perde
Geen manne op die maan
Vissies in Venisië
En maskers in Wuhan
Daar was panic daar was vrede
Toe die wêreld stil gaan staan.”...

Zoid says that the making and writing of the song happened by chance: “Neil came to say hello at my studio while he was here on a visit from America, literally a day before President Ramaphoza announced the lockdown restrictions in South Africa. We talked about the virus and the fact that the world will now be forever changed. Who would have thought that we would experience a global pandemic in our lifetime, like in the previous century with the Spanish flu? Both my great-grandmother and great-grandfather died of that horrific flu at the time. We sat impromptu with a guitar and this is how the song came about.

After the lockdown announcement on Sunday night, we realized that we must put a speedy plan into action to record the song while there was still time. While everyone else was busy finalising business, buying toilet paper and doing shopping, we were in the studio with Theo Crous in Bellville to record the track. I caught Early B to collaborate with us just in time before he hit the road to be with his family in PE.

It is quite something to be alive in a time where everyone in the world is going through the same thing in facing the same problem. We find ourselves in a space between the extremes of easiness and discomfort. For me, two things keep me focused in this time: the first is that one can only live one day at a time and the second is like they said in the 60`s: Love is Everything. I hope that this song will bring people solace in knowing that we are all in this together.”

'Toe Die Wêreld Stil Gaan Staan' is available on all your favourite digital platforms,

Zoid and her team were recently awarded the “Toyota Top-orde Woordtrofee" for her “Karen Zoid 20 Year Pops” show with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra at Toyota US Woordfees in March 2020. According to the Toyota US Woordfees, this prize is awarded to a musician or performance of outstanding quality that falls outside the traditional categories of contemporary music. Not only wat it the top seller presentation at the festival, but it also seamlessly integrated contemporary and classical music in a show that inspired and entertained - a fitting celebration of Zoid`s 20 years in the music industry.

The 6th season of kykNET`s popular talk and music show Republiek van Zoid Afrika with Karen Zoid as the presenter will be aired on kykNET on Thursday nights from April 16th.
