Flaming Pistoleros’ latest album The Greatest Flamenco Sleaze Glam Band Ever! is a mile-a-minute festival of crunching riffs and pounding drums with a touch of flamenco for added spice.

Born somewhere between Birmingham and Barcelona, Flaming Pistoleros are a flamenco-glam rock band whose unique sound and hard-rocking energy have seen them share the stage with the likes of Motley Crue, Guns ‘n’ Roses, Motorhead, and Poison.

You’d be forgiven for rolling your eyes during the first few bars of the album’s opener ‘Ay Que Dolor’ as the drums, guitars, and vocals come together to form a somewhat typical glam-rock intro but the moment the flamenco guitar lines come in any thoughts of derivation will be gone.

The strains of flamenco grace the ears at every possible stage, including on a pounding cover of ‘Livin’ la Vida Loca’ which is given more bite than I’m sure Ricky Martin ever thought it would be.

With the album coming in at 18 tracks my initial concern was that it would end up becoming monotonous with the second half of the album bringing nothing new or interesting to the table. I’m glad to say that’s not the case as songs like ‘Los Suenos de Los Muertos’ and a cover of Nina Simone’s ‘Wild is the Wind’ show a softer side to the band.

The Greatest Flamenco Sleaze Glam Band Ever! is perhaps the most appropriately titled album ever. The glam-rock foundation takes us back to the time of sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll while the flamenco strains bring a world of nuance and keep it from falling into obscurity.
