Belau’s video for ‘Essence’ is proof that sometimes words are expendable.

After teaming up with Sophie Barker and dropping a single called ‘Essence,’ the Budapest-based electronic duo Belau have released a video that is a masterclass in non-verbal story-telling.

Watch 'Essence' below!

With growth and empowerment as the message, the song hopes to inspire those who feel stifled by themselves and those around them to become the best people they can possibly be. Making the decision to actively work towards growing as a person is daunting but ‘Essence,’ with its quietly confident melodies and encouraging vocals, somehow makes it seem like less of a challenge.

In the video we see three different women go on their own journeys of self-discovery and self-acceptance. Proving that people don’t need words to tell a story, they say everything through the way they exist in the world.

Amazing performances aside, another beautiful feature of the video is the scenery. It’s grand without being self-indulgent and gives so much insight into the characters’ personalities. Every shot adds a little bit more to their back-stories and by the end, you feel like you have a connection to them.

To say that this is just a music video would be an injustice. With its stunning scenery and clear, poignant storytelling it leans much more towards the short-film side of things.
