Aweh Summa! Head down to GrandWest, Cape Town’s premium entertainment venue, for the summer buzz and all the fun and fabulous summer feels this holiday. GrandWest has a fantastic lineup of world-class shows, kid’s activities, festivals, competitions and local music talent that the whole family will love.

The internationally acclaimed Avalon Group, which first opened a cinema in District Six, marks its 80th year in the film industry with its new CineCentre multiplex that opened at GrandWest this November. This brand new cinema is kitted with luxurious leather-clad, semi-reclining seats, new crystal clear screens, state-of-the-art digital projectors, and complete surround sound, the first of its kind in Cape Town. Having this cinema reopen in Cape Town almost 50 years after it was unceremoniously uprooted from the Mother City during the apartheid era is hugely significant. In District Six, the Avalon Cinema was a focal point for the community, not just for weekly outings to see the latest films, for which people dressed up, but also for hosting community events. This included meetings and public addresses of the anti-apartheid movements. Now you can see all the latest Hollywood and Bollywood movies at this state-of-the-art cinema in GrandWest.

If you love hitting the dance floor, Hanover Street, GrandWest drops the beats every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in December with some of the best local DJs, including Stan Mars, Dalin Oliver, Brandon Leigh and Dr Jules. This is a great place to feel the New Year Eve buzz and dance into the New Year.

Get your dose of live entertainment at the chilled Jackson Hall wine and cocktail bar, every Friday and Saturday night with some excellent local talent. Charles B and Faze 4 take the stage in December, with Amina and Signature SA on in January. Bassmint and Charles B will be jamming on New Year’s Eve.

GrandWest loves to entertain the little ones, and there is a vast variety of fun things to do for kids of all ages, from arcade games, tenpin bowling, ice skating and laser tag. To celebrate the Aweh Summa at GrandWest the Fun Park opens at the Sun Exhibits from 16 December 2019 to 11 January 2020 (closed on 24 and 25 December 2019).

Here young kids will love the pop-up playground, with jumping castles, obstacle courses, cool characters and photo frames. Slightly older kids can enjoy the range of carnival rides and, for kids looking for a little more adventure, there are bungee trampolines, a parachute simulator and wipe-out games.

There will also be an Aweh Summa Fun kids programme with face painting, puppet shows, dancers, mimes, jugglers, live DJs, magicians and balloon twisters to keep children of all ages entertained for hours.

“Summer is the most fun time of the year and we make sure everyone is having a great time at GrandWest,” says Elouise Matthys, the PR and Promotions Manager at GrandWest. “There is so much on and the buzz is fantastic. Bring your whole family down to feel the festive vibe this holiday.”
