It’s a niche for those who support authentic music and the music, well that’s like brewing the perfect craft beer. It takes a special blend of ingredients to create something unique and they are extremely proud and honoured to be part of this music experience.

The 32-year old Neve sound desk has 54 channels for Grammy Award-winning sound engineer, Franco, to master the perfect output for good old fashioned, stripped-down, rock and roll. At first glance, you see these old toppies on a mission of their own, pushing and pressing buttons on a dashboard that makes the cockpit of a Boeing 747 look like child’s play, at least for those looking in.

The line-up did not disappoint and the shed was filled to capacity with an eclectic crowd: groupies, true-to-nature rock and blues fans, family, friends and perhaps a few curious that wanted to hear what all the “raw and robust” music hype was all about.

The young Matt Carstens, who started jamming in pubs in Limpopo before hitting Cape Town, opened the stage. Matt writes his own songs and creates music with his guitar and loop pedal. His lyrics are profound and the tunes have a laid-back feel, quite fitting for the intimate venue.

Arno Carstens turned the notch up quite a bit, proving why his sound is lasting, playing to the crowd with hits going back to his Springbok Nude Girls’ days and using the Analog On Tap stage to premiere his new single 'Empire Of The Night'.

The venue also hosts the Orgasmic Music Gallery (OMG) where Arno’s fine art was on display.

Closing, and captivating the audience to no surprise, with a blues-rock performance, was the Albert Frost Trio, with Albert Frost on guitar and vocals, Schalk Joubert on bass and Jonno Sweetman on drums.

Everyone simply adores frontman and guitar legend, Albert Frost. His energy on stage is contagious and not only is he absolutely brilliant in his craft, but also very charming and engaging on stage and for those who don’t know, Albert and Schalk share bragging rights to have been to every Oppiekoppie Music Festival, since inception. Needless to say that they have earned their stripes in the music industry.

Was it worth the hype? Hell yeah!
