Johannesburg, 19 June 2025: The Bedfordview community showed up in force for the “Your Cancer Counts” campaign at Bedford Centre, standing in solidarity with survivors, fighters, and the families affected by cancer.

Earlier this month, Bedford Centre transformed into a space of connection and remembrance as residents gathered for the “Your Cancer Counts” campaign — a national movement powered by Living with Cancer SA ahead of National Cancer Survivors Day. The event aimed to raise awareness and honour those who’ve been touched by cancer in South Africa.

At the heart of the activation stood a giant ribbon sculpture, colourfully packed with balls, each bearing the name of someone impacted by the disease. Positioned opposite Elegance Jewellers and Spur, it became a poignant focal point as shoppers wrote names, shared memories, and paid tribute to loved ones.

Volunteers were on-site throughout, handing out info on early detection, cancer support services, and South Africa’s first patient-led cancer registry — a pioneering step to give a louder voice to those directly affected by the disease.

"This reminded us just how many people in our community carry this fight with them — whether they’ve survived, are currently in treatment, or have lost someone,” said Linda Linnow, Bedford Centre Manager. “We’re grateful to everyone who came out to support and help build this message, one name at a time.”

The campaign was run in collaboration with the National Cancer Registry and other advocacy organisations, proving once again that communities like Bedfordview can turn out when it matters most.

The Your Cancer Counts campaign was presented in partnership with Living with Cancer, the National Cancer Registry, and leading cancer support organisations. For more information, visit www.livingwithcancersa.co.za.
