Johannesburg, 24 October 2024: Phumulani Mall is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a Mental Health and Wellness Day on Tuesday, 29 October 2024 with the aim to raise awareness and understanding of mental health and stroke prevention. This initiative is being held in collaboration with Life Healthcare Carstenhof and Carstenview Hospitals, alongside Lancet and Ampath Laboratories.

As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Mental Health and Wellness Day is an extension of the mall’s commitment to helping its surrounding community understand the importance of mental well-being. For further awareness, information about mental health, stroke awareness and the event details will be shared on Phumulani Mall’s Facebook, Instagram, and mall screens throughout the month.

The event will include free health screenings and educational sessions, designed to empower shoppers to prioritize their well-being. Screenings will be available from 10 AM to 1 PM in the car park including:

  • Blood pressure checks
  • Cholesterol tests
  • Diabetes screening
  • Body mass index (BMI) assessments

Experts from Carstenview Hospital will also provide valuable information on managing depression, anxiety and mental health challenges.

Health for All: Bringing Services Closer to the Community

Phumulani Mall, located near the Winnie Mandela settlement in Tembisa, recognizes the challenges many residents face in accessing professional mental healthcare. Mental well-being is essential for personal and community health, and unfortunately, individuals with mental health struggles are often neglected or marginalized. This event aims to bridge that gap by offering on-site expertise and resources, making vital care more accessible.

This one-day event offers shoppers a chance to ask health-related questions and connect with professionals who can provide guidance and support. Whether one is seeking advice for oneself or a loved one, this initiative will help provide practical ways to cope with depression, anxiety, stress and overall mental health challenges.
