Johannesburg, 26 June 2025 — Iconic blue legends Smurfette and a brand-new character dubbed No Name have officially landed in South Africa to kick off one of the most extensive character tours this country’s ever hosted. It’s all part of the hype campaign for the upcoming SMURFS movie, set for nationwide release on Friday, 11 July 2025.
The “Smurfing the Nation” tour promises fans meet & greets, live dance-offs, sticker giveaways, and a playlist stacked with big-name tracks from Rihanna, Cardi B, DJ Khaled, Shenseea, Tyla, and James Corden. Expect the blue crew to pop up at malls, casinos, and venues in four provinces — bringing 90s nostalgia with a 2025 pop-culture edge.
Cape Town Gets It First
The tour launches in the Western Cape from 26–30 June, with stops at Somerset Mall, Blue Route, Tygervalley Mall, Canal Walk, and a Global Smurf Day bash. They’ll also hit V&A Waterfront Spur and GrandWest Casino.
Then it’s eastward: Garden Route Mall, Baywest Mall, Boardwalk Casino, Hemingways, and Wild Coast Sun through to 4 July.
Durban And Joburg Up Next
Durbanites get their turn 5–7 July with appearances at Pavilion, Sibaya Casino, Cornubia, Ballito, Galleria, and Suncoast.
Joburg and Pretoria take over from 9 July, with highlights including Gold Reef City, Cresta Mall, Clearwater Mall, The Grove’s Smurf Mushroom Village, and Sun City. The final leg runs through Eastgate, Sandton, Emperors Palace, Menlyn Park, Montecasino, and Mall of Africa, wrapping at Mall of the North on 26 July.
Entry is completely free — fans just need to check venue socials for times.
Big Names, Big Soundtrack
The new SMURFS film stars Rihanna as Smurfette, John Goodman as Papa Smurf, plus James Corden, Sandra Oh, Jimmy Kimmel, Amy Sedaris, and Daniel Levy. It’s a wild, animated adventure as Smurfette leads the charge to rescue Papa Smurf from the infamous Gargamel and his new partner-in-crime Razamel.
And yes — SPUR restaurants are getting in on the action too, with themed meals during the tour run.
The campaign is backed by UIP SA, Paramount Animation, Sun International, and SPUR. Expect high-energy nostalgia with a contemporary twist.
