NFTA 2025 Celebrates South African Screen Talent Across Film, Television, and Emerging Performers

Johannesburg, 13 October 2025 — The National Film & TV Awards South Africa (NFTA) today unveiled the official list of 2025 nominees alongside the distinguished recipients of its prestigious honorary awards. With more than 1.9 million public submissions this year, the NFTA continues its mission to elevate South African talent on a global stage while connecting local productions to international audiences.
The third annual ceremony will take place on 22 November 2025 at the South African State Theatre, spotlighting the full creative spectrum of South African film and television—from blockbuster hits and acclaimed dramas to breakout stars reshaping the industry.
Honouring Legendary Contributions
This year, Dr John Kani will receive the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award, recognising his enduring impact on cinema and theatre. Additionally, industry stalwarts Leon Schuster, Alfred Ntombela, and Dr Jerry Mofokeng Makhetha will each be honoured with the Outstanding Contribution to Film and TV Award, celebrating their generational influence on South African culture.

Standout Nominees Across Categories
- Best Actress in a Film: Khanyi Mbau and Ayanda Borotho lead the field.
- Best Actor in a TV Series: Lemogang Tsipa and Thembinkosi Mthembu headline.
- Best Feature Films: Semi-Soeter, Meet the Khumalos, Disaster Holiday, Kites, Khaki Fever, and Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight dominate discussions.
- Rising Stars: Fresh talent from Niggies, Kites, Youngins, and GO! signal a vibrant future pipeline.
- Audience Favourites: Minnie Dlamini, Katlego Maboe, Lasizwe Dambuza, and Carissa Cupido feature prominently across personality and presenting categories.
Public Voting & Live Ceremony
Public voting opens 13:00, 13 October 2025, via nationalfilmacademy.com and closes 12:00, 20 November 2025. The awards will be streamed live on VooVix TV, delivering a global showcase of South African talent.
