Johannesburg, 25 June 2025:  It’s about to get seriously gnarly beneath the surface as National Geographic Wild drops its annual deep-sea takeover, SHARKFEST, this July! Think 25 hours of teeth-clashing, cage-free shark documentaries, rare interviews, and pure aquatic adrenaline blasting across your screen.

The headline event? SHARKS UP CLOSE WITH BERTIE GREGORY. This isn’t your average nature show. Bertie Gregory — the Emmy®- and BAFTA-winning wildlife filmmaker and full-blown adventure junkie — heads to South Africa to swim with great white sharks without a cage. No stunt doubles. No safety nets. Just man versus nature, raw and real. Catch it Sunday 13 July at 18:00 on Nat Geo Wild (DStv 182, StarTimes 221).

And if cult film nostalgia is your thing, brace yourself for JAWS @ 50: THE DEFINITIVE INSIDE STORY. Premiering Saturday, 26 July at 18:00, it’s the only official deep dive into the legendary blockbuster that rewired pop culture’s fear of open water. Expect Spielberg interviews, epic behind-the-scenes chaos, rare archive reels, and modern shark conservation voices weighing in.

Also surfacing this season:

  • INVESTIGATION SHARK ATTACK (Wednesdays, 2–30 July, 18:00) — Scientists unpack what drives sharks to strike.
  • SHARKS OF THE NORTH (Sunday 6 July, 18:00) — Canada’s Atlantic coast gets chomped on.
  • WHEN SHARKS ATTACK (Sundays, 6–20 July, 18:45) — Real-life attacks. Real footage. Real shivers.
  • CANNIBAL SHARKS: SHARK vs SHARK (Sunday 27 July, 18:00) — Apex predators munching on their own kind. Yes, really.

SHARKFEST isn’t just blood and bites — it’s packed with wild facts, conservation stories, and oceanography geek-outs designed for anyone obsessed with what lurks below.

Tune in from 2 July 2025 and prepare to be hooked.
