Confronting opposition with the phrase "it's just a game we play," the song highlights the use of gaslighting tactics employed by those in power to maintain control.

The lyrics vividly depict a societal divide, where some are privileged ("Silver Snakes" or lucky ones) while others are born into a struggle, fighting their way out of an "aching abyss." Guitarist, vocalist, and main songwriter Marius Schutte reflects on the creative process, stating, "The bone structure for the song was written back in 2018 when I was trying to write cinematic rock music for the first time. The main approach was to use dramatic chord progressions to imitate film music but doing it using heavy guitars. The breakdown at the end of the song is new, and only written in 2021 whilst finishing the rest of the first album's writing.” When asked about the eye-catching video, he adds, “The video cost us nothing to make and was largely AI generated through a complex coding system”.
