South African singer-songwriter Jody Mayhew's new single, ‘Nog 'n Kans’ (Another Chance), is a deeply moving song that delivers a powerful message of hope, support, and encouragement for those facing difficult times. With heartfelt lyrics inspired by the tragic story of a young person who struggled with life’s challenges, Jody’s latest track serves as a poignant reminder that no one is alone and that there is always hope - even in the darkest moments.

A Message of Compassion: Jody explains, “The song was born from a place of care and sadness. I feel that people don’t hear these words enough: that life without you would be empty. Many, when faced with overwhelming circumstances, may feel lost, and this song is for them. After reading an article about a 15-year-old boy who tragically lost his life, I was deeply moved to write ‘Nog 'n Kans.’ Little did I know this song would go on to impact someone else’s life in a meaningful way.”

The song highlights the importance of reaching out to those who may feel burdened by life’s challenges, offering them the support and encouragement they need. It’s a powerful anthem of resilience and compassion, reminding us that we are here to make a difference in each other’s lives.

Born in Pietermaritzburg and raised in Brits, Jody Mayhew has earned recognition across South Africa with his soulful performances. At the age of 15, he taught himself to play guitar, and by 18, he was performing on stage. Since then, Jody has released eight songs on various platforms, including ‘Travel the World,’ which reached the top 3 in an international competition. His first Afrikaans song, ‘Altyd Somer Saam Met Jou,’ received extensive radio airplay, firmly establishing his presence in the music industry.

Known for his distinctive style of blending familiar songs with his own original compositions, Jody’s performances are a fusion of Singer-Songwriter, Country, and Afrikaans influences. His music has captivated audiences nationwide, and he has had the honour of opening for renowned South African artists such as Arno Carstens, Roan Ash, Francois van Coke, Juan Boucher, and Dozi.

Reflecting on the inspiration he draws from these experiences, Jody says, “Seeing each artist’s passion and love for music inspires me and fills me with gratitude for the paths they’ve paved for artists like me.”
