Finnish Melodic Death/Doom Metal outfit Shadecrown returns with a harrowing yet majestic offering: their fourth studio album, simply titled “0”—released today via Inverse Records. The nine-track release plunges deep into despair, introspection, and cathartic grief, delivered through haunting melodies and crushing instrumentation that fans of the genre will find devastatingly familiar and disturbingly new.
A Sonic Descent Into Darkness, Crafted With Precision
Formed in 2012 in Viitasaari, Finland, Shadecrown has carved a unique space within the Scandinavian metal scene — blending melancholic doom atmospheres with the grit of melodic death metal, all underscored by introspective storytelling.
Now, with “0”, the band evolves once more, presenting a deeply personal and musically sophisticated record that frontman and keyboardist Saku Tammelin describes as “heavy, melodic and maybe a little faster paced, without forgetting the slower parts.” He continues:
“This time the album took a little longer than planned, but it's finally finished. It turned out to be a fairly familiar sounding Shadecrown, but there are also some more unusual elements. I wrote all the songs and lyrics myself.”
That solitary creative focus lends the record both cohesion and depth — every track a reflection of the band's inner darkness, grief, and strength.
The Sound Of Vulnerability Meets Raw Power
Guitarist Tomi Tikka adds a more visceral reflection:
“During the album making phase, I focused more on playing lead guitars and writing solos than actually listening to the compositions. Now that the album is completely finished, it opens up to me, too. It holds me in its grip, sometimes tearing my heart open, making me think, and at other times pushing me forward with force. Reminding me that there is still guts. Perkele.”
“0” is not just another addition to their catalogue — it’s a declaration of resilience through heaviness, and a testament to melodic doom’s enduring emotional power.
Visuals That Cut Deep
Shadecrown supports the album with a compelling audiovisual journey:
- Watch the official music video for “The Art of Grieving”
- Watch the lyric video for “Tear-Blind”
- Watch the music video for “Inadequate”
Each visual offers another layer to the album’s narrative—from the weight of grief to the chaos of emotional inadequacy—expanding the album’s concept beyond the audio realm.
