The Meditators performances are jam-packed with energy from the start to the finish and watching them live a few times, they never disappoint. The band has been going since 1991 and have been through many ups and downs but still, stand strong today. Their message of freedom and unity comes through in all their music while they pioneer the Durban reggae scene. We caught up with The Meditators ahead of their appearance at Splashy Fen 2016.

Did you get to meet Rita Marley when you opened for her in 2004?

Rita and her band the 'I Threes' were chilling on the beach in Umhlanga and arrived more than 2hours late for that show, Meditators set was over and we were all wondering what was going on! They were whisked in and whisked out, it was a very poor turnout and poorly promoted show, no we didn't meet her then, but in 2008, we celebrated Bob's Earthday with her and her entourage with orange juice and cake at sunrise on North Beach and we were invited to perform for them later at Zulu Jazz Lounge... the band got her on stage and sang Redemption song with her. She was here promoting her book with a collection of photos of Bob that were on exhibition at the City Hall.

If so, what was she like?

She was gracious and respectful.

The AUDIENCE!

When can we expect another album?

Just busy finalizing the new album, 'Your Love', launching online 28th February 2016 if all goes according to plan.

What advice can you give for aspiring Reggae artists in South Africa?

The road is rough and you have to be tough! Stay true to the music and the music will make the way and take you where you need to go. Faith in yourself is key.
