Cape Town, 26 May 2025 – Liberty Promenade Mall has officially launched its Heroes Among Us campaign in the lead-up to Mandela Day 2025, inviting nominations for everyday changemakers who quietly shape their communities through sustained and often unrecognised service.

Building on the charity-driven momentum of last year’s Mandela Day initiative, this year’s campaign broadens its scope to honour a more diverse array of community champions. From teachers and sports coaches to NGO leaders, healthcare workers, and volunteers, the campaign seeks individuals who consistently invest time and effort to improve the lives of others in their neighbourhoods.

Recognising Real Impact
The core objective of Heroes Among Us is to spotlight unsung heroes embodying Mandela Day’s ethos of service beyond self. Through a nomination and application process hosted online, Liberty Promenade will shortlist candidates for a compelling photo exhibition in-centre this July. The exhibition will feature portraits and personal stories of these changemakers, offering shoppers a powerful opportunity to engage with authentic narratives of local impact.

One standout nominee will receive up to R20,000 in funding to advance their community work—an investment aimed at catalysing further grassroots progress.

Brenda Bibby, General Manager at Liberty Promenade Mall, underlines the campaign’s community-centric ethos:
“As a mall deeply rooted in Mitchell’s Plain, we are proud to spotlight those everyday heroes who give selflessly to their communities. Heroes Among Us celebrates the heart of our region—people who are effecting real, tangible change.”

How to Participate
Nominations are open now and can be submitted via the Liberty Promenade website or through its social media platforms. A verification process will be undertaken to ensure legitimacy. To nominate a changemaker or stay updated on community-driven projects, visit www.libertypromenade.co.za or follow Liberty Promenade on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.
