Johannesburg, 13 October 2025: Sandton City has launched the latest chapter of its Words That Heal campaign in collaboration with the Riky Rick Foundation, highlighting emotional well-being during Mental Health Awareness Month. What started as a national call for words of encouragement has grown into a moving original song and an immersive in-centre activation, showcasing the power of creative expression in supporting youth mental wellness.
The Song That Speaks to Healing
Earlier this year, shoppers at Sandton City were invited to share heartfelt voice notes of encouragement — messages they wanted to give to those struggling with mental health challenges. Selected submissions have now been woven into a powerful original track, Words That Heal, featuring the voice of Riky Rick.
The hip hop anthem celebrates resilience, reminding listeners that no one is alone in their journey. Available online and on YouTube and SoundCloud, the track reinforces the campaign’s core message: words can connect, comfort, and inspire. Each person has the power to transform awareness into action, ensuring the mental health conversation continues beyond October.
Experience the Movement at Sandton City
Until Sunday, 9 November, shoppers can explore the Words That Heal pop-up experience, located on the upper level next to BOSS. Developed with acclaimed artist Samurai Farai, the activation features limited-edition T-shirts, hoodies, and scarves inspired by “artivism,” the intersection of creativity and activism that Riky Rick championed.
All proceeds from merchandise sales benefit the Riky Rick Foundation, which supports youth mental well-being and provides platforms for creative expression as a healing tool. Visitors can also pledge their support online at rikyrickfoundation.co.za.
Raising Awareness, Inspiring Action
Every day, an estimated 23 South Africans lose their lives to suicide, with hundreds more attempting to take their lives. Through this initiative, Sandton City aims to continue raising hope, fostering awareness, and encouraging meaningful conversations around mental health.
Shoppers are encouraged to raise their voices for those facing mental health challenges. The WhatsApp line 063 980 5816 remains open. Remember, one kind message can help save a life.
