Johannesburg, 20 November 2025: The festive season has officially arrived at Melrose Arch. Following sold-out performances by the Drakensberg Boys Choir and the Chamber Orchestra of Johannesburg, the precinct has launched Destination Christmas 2025, an annual celebration transforming the area into a dazzling holiday wonderland.

Renowned for its European-inspired Christmas lights that illuminate the precinct like a sparkling village, Melrose Arch has gone further this year with new light installations designed to captivate visitors of all ages. The shimmering displays set the scene for evening strolls, alfresco dining, and live music throughout the season.

Markets, Magic and Festive Flair

Shoppers can explore the Destination Christmas Market on The Square from 10 to 15 December, offering unique gifts, seasonal treats, festive décor, and bespoke items in an outdoor, joyful setting. The festivities continue indoors at the Retail Galleria Market from 18 to 21 December, featuring gourmet food, artisan crafts, and holiday shopping in a vibrant atmosphere.

The Jameson Festive Market, running from 6 to 27 December on the Piazza, is free to enter and promises whisky tastings, mixology showcases, cocktail-of-the-week specials, exclusive branded gifts, live entertainment, and interactive games. Music enthusiasts can look forward to the Jeppe Pipe Band marching through the precinct on 5 December at 7 PM.

Family Favourites and Festive Fun

A highlight this year is the Destination Christmas Fun Zone, open from 5 to 31 December, 6:30 PM – 10 PM daily. Located in the basement below Moove Motion Fitness Gym and accessible from Upper High Street, this activation features neon-lit themed characters, a pop-up roller-skating rink called Retro Rolla, and Glo Riders—motorised quad bikes that glow in the dark, available at R50 per ride.

Throughout December, whimsical characters including Mia the Pixie, Magical Ballerina, The Toy Soldier, Gingerbreadman, Nuala the Fairy, and Santa Claus will roam the precinct every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, alongside face painting stations and photo opportunities. Treats on the go include candyfloss on glow sticks, mini glazed doughnuts, rolled ice cream, matcha, gourmet popcorn, chocolate-covered strawberries, tacos, boerewors rolls, and soft serve.

More Reasons to Shop and Convenient Parking

Melrose Arch shoppers can participate in the “Spend, Spin & Win” promotion from 28 November to 23 December, 2 PM – 4 PM daily, at the Middle Level Retail Galleria, Woolworths Court. Purchases qualify for prizes including cash vouchers from OMODA and JAECOO, designer jerseys from Charles Tyrwhitt, David Tlale’s Emoji T-shirts, vouchers from Forever New, Nicci Boutique, Virgule, curated hampers from The Flower Market, health and beauty experiences, and dining vouchers from Tashas, The Grillhouse, Mezepoli, and more. Terms and conditions apply.

The Retail Galleria will be festively adorned, from shopfronts to golden pendants suspended from the glass roof, with gift box installations providing Instagram-worthy moments. Families can enjoy flat-rate parking at R25 from 14 November to 4 January, 6 PM daily via the Parket system.
