East London, 17 September 2024: It is no secret that period poverty affects millions of girls across South Africa, leading to devastating consequences including absenteeism from school, social exclusion and reduced confidence among the affected learners. For the third year in a row, Vincent Park Mall in East London, dedicated Women’s Month to champion alleviating this struggle.
By partnering with the, The Women in Me (TWIM) non-profit organisation, the mall rallied its tenants and shoppers to donate sanitary pads throughout the month, and the result was simply astounding. The people of Buffalo City once again showed their generous spirit with hundreds of packs of sanitary pads collected. These much-needed products have been donated to a rural, no-fee school, straight into the hands of learners who need them most.
“TWIM is driven by the passion to make a positive impact in young girls’ lives by collecting sanitary pads to help keep them in school during their periods. We believe that education is a fundamental right and a key to unlocking opportunities that lie ahead of them. Our collaboration with Vincent Park has been an absolute blessing. This year marks 3 years since the inception of the partnership with the mall, and the response has been tremendously positive. May we remain united in helping keep a girl child in school,” said Sisanda Mabizel from TWIM.
As a long-standing mall in the area, and with deep roots in the community, Vincent Park is a significant contributor to social causes in the area, frequently getting behind initiatives geared to changing lives for good. The centre is situated in the heart of East London, and houses over 80 stores, including banking, dining, groceries, apparel, leisure and lifestyle.
