Johannesburg, 17 April 2026: Johannesburg took centre stage this week as the official South African premiere of MICHAEL played out at Ster-Kinekor IMAX, Mall of Africa. With nearly 400 invited guests in attendance, from high-profile celebrities to influential content creators and VIPs, the evening reflected the scale and anticipation surrounding a film already making waves globally.

From arrival to screening, the experience was tightly executed and visually striking, echoing the precision, artistry and cultural significance of the story at its centre. Hosted by Tbo Touch, the event combined stardom with a sense of occasion as guests gathered to witness one of the year’s most anticipated cinema blockbusters.

A Guest List In Step With The Moment

The arrivals carpet welcomed a sharp and stylish guest list, with some of South Africa’s most recognisable names in attendance.

Among them were prominent actors Clint Brink, Hungani Ndlovu, Jason Willemse, Kayise Ngqula, Siv Ngesi, Tarina Patel and Tumisho Masha; award-winning content creators Kim Jayde, Miss PVK, Primo and Robot Boii; radio personalities Ayanda MVP, Lula Odiba, Martin Bester, Rozanne McKenzie, Sabby Mtshali and Tbo Touch; former Mrs SA Erin Miller, singer Langa Mavusa and legendary actress Connie Ferguson.

Adding to the sense of legacy woven through the evening, it became a true family affair as the Modiselle sisters, Bontle and Refilwe, stepped out together alongside siblings Bobby and Karlien van Jaarsveld. Celebrity couples that stepped out included Bontle Modiselle and Priddy Ugly; Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala and Siphiwe Tshabalala; and Vourne and Theo Kgosinkwe.

The evening also reunited the five South African creators who attended the global premiere of MICHAEL in Berlin last week, namely Bontle Modiselle, Chad Jones, Carpo More, Bobby van Jaarsveld and Hope Ramafalo, bringing a direct link between the international stage and the local celebration.

A Global Story, A Local Response

With worldwide anticipation at an all-time high, MICHAEL has already begun to assert itself as a defining cinematic release. That momentum was clearly reflected in Johannesburg, where early reactions from guests pointed to a film that delivers both scale and substance, with its music, storytelling and performances resonating strongly with audiences.

The premiere was filmed for broadcast on Bravo TV (DStv channel 124), offering viewers a closer look at the night and the personalities who came together to mark the occasion. The glamour and action from the evening can also be caught on the Bravo Africa social media feeds @BravoTV_Africa as well as on @Universalpicsza.

The story behind the icon

MICHAEL charts the life of one of the most influential entertainers of all time, offering an intimate and expansive look at the moments that shaped his rise to global superstardom.
