High-voltage rockers We Kill Cowboys are back with a brand new single, a track that offers a thrilling taste of what fans can expect from their highly anticipated upcoming EP Back From The Dead, set for release in early 2025 via Mongrel Records. Known for their intense blend of psychedelic rock, punk, grunge, and stoner blues, the Cape Town-based quartet is ready to disrupt the music scene once again.
Fronted by Alex Muller, tattoo artist and singer-songwriter, We Kill Cowboys have carved out a distinctive place in the South African rock landscape with their gritty, anti-establishment sound and high-energy live performances. Muller’s compelling vocals bring deeply emotional and thought-provoking narratives to life, and this new single is no exception.
Inspired by Alex’s fascination with science fiction, the track explores the complex intersection of consciousness and identity. "I love Sci-Fi. I'm fascinated by the idea of androids and AI and how that would shift the world as we know it. There’s something about that confusion between robot vs. human that resonates deeply with how women have felt for centuries,” says the vocalist. The single dives into themes of societal expectations placed on women and the ways they have been marginalized, subjugated, and misunderstood throughout history.
"The song speaks about the expectations society puts onto women," She continues. "How we are expected to play a certain role, how women can be subjectified, abused, and used in a magnitude of ways. We've been labelled as witches or diagnosed with hysteria... what are we? Where do we belong? Are we not all human beings? That's the underlying message."
The single features the band’s signature sound, with Mornay's searing guitar riffs, Andrew's thunderous drumming, and Miggs’ fuzzy bass grooves adding depth and intensity to the message. Describing the track, Muller says, “It’s hard, energetic, thought-provoking, anthemic, and full of groove.”
The band’s writing process remains collaborative, with the initial spark starting at home. “I write at home on my acoustic. I bring the basic vibe to the band, and we finish it together. That's generally how our writing process works,” Explains Alex.
We Kill Cowboys are known for their electrifying live shows, and fans can expect the new single to be a central part of their upcoming performances. With a reputation for leaving audiences both exhilarated and reflective, this latest track promises to deliver an experience that will resonate deeply and linger long after the final note.
