Cape Town, 27 October 2025: The 2025 Next Generation Musical Showcase at Liberty Promenade concluded on a high note as learners from local schools brought the theme “Fairytales: Once Upon A Cape Flats Edition” to life with energy, imagination and enthusiasm this past weekend. Each magical performance conveyed youthful perspectives while weaving in local culture, vibrant storytelling and the unique talents of the dynamic young performers.

The audience was treated to lively performances filled with beautiful vocals, colourful costumes, and captivating characters, including Red Riding Hood, Old Mother Hubbard, Quasimodo and Cinderella, bringing enchanting tales, underpinned by heartfelt messages to the stage.

Top-performing Schools Take the Prize

Congratulations go to Eastville Primary, Spine Road High, Beacon School for LSEN, West End Primary and Jamaica Way Primary, who claimed the top spots and received R14,000 each for their schools, performers and teachers. These schools impressed the judges with their inventive interpretations, combining music, dance, rap and theatrical flair to transform well-loved fairytales into lively Cape Flats narratives.

Furthermore, six pupils were singled out as stars for their exceptional performances and awarded special prizes in recognition of their standout talents.

Community and Public Engagement

Adding to the celebratory atmosphere, Nando’s in the centre generously sponsored meals for all the performing youth, ensuring the day was both memorable and nourishing.

The excitement continues as entries are open for the Next Generation Community Choice Award, giving one remaining school the opportunity to win R10,000 towards improvements at the school. Members of the public can vote to give one school their fairytale ending at libertypromenade.co.za/community-choice-award. Voting closes on Wednesday, 5 November 2025 at 23:59. Ts & Cs apply.

Liberty Promenade extends its heartfelt thanks to all participating schools, performers, coaches and families who brought so much life and creativity to the stage. The showcase highlighted the exceptional talent and dedication of young people in the Cape Flats and celebrated the power of performing arts to inspire, connect and entertain.
