Johannesburg, 30 May 2025 – Fourways Mall continues its strategic growth trajectory, expanding both its retail mix and lifestyle experiences to stay ahead of the curve in Johannesburg’s northern suburbs. In the past year alone, the mall has let over 20,783 square meters of retail space while renewing leases for more than 150 tenants, underpinning its relevance with upwardly-mobile consumers.

A standout return is Spur, the iconic South African restaurant chain, back in the mall after nearly a decade, met with enthusiasm from the local community. Alongside it, dynamic new tenants such as Huawei, Levisons, Mochachos, Pet Shop Science, and ZuluZenith have enhanced the retail offer. Financial service providers African Bank and Travelex have relocated to more accessible positions.

Among the most anticipated developments is the refurbishment of the iconic aeroplane display within the mall, poised to become a nostalgic and interactive attraction for visitors once again.

Fourways Mall’s push toward experiential retail is equally evident in its new wellness and entertainment additions. These include Match Padel’s eight rooftop padel courts, a High Performance Training Hyrox studio, and soon-to-open attractions like Total Ninja, Urban Playground, Planet Fitness, and Bloc 11. It’s a deliberate move to position the mall as more than a retail hub — evolving into a social, fitness, and lifestyle destination.

Sustainability remains high on the agenda. A significant solar installation is underway, aiming to reduce the mall’s environmental footprint while ensuring operational resilience during South Africa’s ongoing power instability.

Operational upgrades are also improving shopper convenience: upgraded signage, intuitive wayfinding, a new e-hailing drop-off zone, and enhanced security now offer a more seamless visit.

“The strong performance of our new tenants confirms that our leasing strategy is on the right track, and we are delighted to have made significant improvements in the overall shopper experience,” said Juan Palm, Fourways Mall Centre Manager. “We’re committed to improving the quality of life for everyone who visits our mall by housing greater variety, joyful experiences and access to the brands and services they know, love and need,” he added.

Fourways Mall’s momentum — underscored by smart leasing, experience-driven attractions, and energy resilience projects — signals a retail space adapting intelligently to an evolving consumer landscape. The question now is whether other malls will follow suit or be left behind.
