Johannesburg, 1 July 2025: The Zone @ Rosebank transformed into a site of reflection and unity this past month as it hosted the Your Cancer Counts campaign—a national initiative raising awareness and gathering personal stories ahead of National Cancer Survivors Day.
At its core stood an impactful, ribbon-shaped structure steadily adorned with brightly coloured balls, each one representing someone affected by cancer. Visitors took a moment to honour loved ones, share personal stories, or quietly reflect—a tangible testament to how deeply cancer touches lives across all communities.
A crucial aspect of the event was encouraging participation in South Africa’s first patient-led cancer registry, designed to gather insights and experiences directly from patients and families to inform future cancer care and research.
Supporting the activation was The Healing Sanctuary, a holistic health store within The Zone @ Rosebank, offering information on integrative therapies and contributing to a sense of tranquillity and community engagement throughout the event.

“Placing this activation outdoors allowed us to connect with people who may not have intended to stop but felt moved to do so,” sharedLeila Daya, Centre Manager at The Zone @ Rosebank. “The response from Rosebank residents was profoundly empathetic and supportive. We’re honoured to have contributed to this national cause.”
The Zone @ Rosebank was one of eight Old Mutual malls participating in the campaign, which was presented in partnership with Living with Cancer SA, the National Cancer Registry, and allied advocacy groups.
