Rocking the Vaal is gearing up for another shot at history, with organisers confirming two official Guinness World Record attempts as the main highlight of this year’s festival. The event takes place on Saturday, 11 April 2026 at the Emerald Resort & Casino, bringing the Vaal region into the spotlight once again for a large, community-driven celebration expected to attract both national and international interest.

The 2026 edition of Rocking the Vaal will aim to break records for the largest serving of pancakes, targeting 30,000 portions, and the largest serving of chilli con carne, with a planned 3,000 kg prepared on site.

Both attempts are designed as participatory experiences, inviting festivalgoers to take part rather than observe, reinforcing the event’s focus on unity, shared celebration and community involvement.

“Building on the momentum of last year’s achievements, we’re incredibly excited about what Rocking the Vaal 2026 represents,” said Marinda Human, marketing manager at Emerald Resort & Casino.

“The scale of the planned Guinness World Record attempts and the level of community participation continue to elevate this festival into something truly special for the Vaal and the country.”

The renewed focus on record-breaking builds on the festival’s proven track record. At Rocking the Vaal 2025, the event successfully set three Guinness World Records in a single weekend, firmly establishing the festival as a national leader in large-scale community participation.

Last year’s achievements included cooking 2 334 kg of pap in the largest pot ever recorded, feeding an estimated 12 000 people; creating the largest serving of kebab meat, stretching three kilometres and weighing 1 674 kg, with more than 2 000 people participating simultaneously; and setting a record for the most people breaking bread at the same time, with 607 learners from various schools taking part - surpassing a previous international record.

These shared food moments are powerful because they bring people together in a very real way,” said Jaco Verwey, organizer of Rocking the Vaal and spokesperson for the Golden Triangle Chamber of Commerce.

“They’ve helped shape Rocking the Vaal into a festival that goes beyond music, creating meaningful experiences that resonate far beyond the Vaal.”

In 2026, live music once again complements the record attempts, with a line-up that includes Die Heuwels Fantasties, Demi Lee Moore, Droomsindroom, Kurt Darren, Karlien van Jaarsveld, Irene-Louise van Wyk, Refentse and Adam Tas. This line-up ensures it is a family-friendly experience throughout the whole day - anchored by community participation.

“Events like Rocking the Vaal remind us why traditions matter,” said Kurt Darren.

“Sharing a pancake or singing along to familiar songs is how memories are made, and I’m excited to be part of that experience in 2026.”

With its continued emphasis on participation, accessibility and record-breaking ambition, Rocking the Vaal 2026 is expected to draw families, community groups and visitors from across Gauteng and beyond. Following last year’s multiple world records, the upcoming edition positions the Vaal region once again on the global stage, reinforcing Rocking the Vaal’s reputation as more than a music festival - but a large-scale celebration of community, collaboration and shared achievement.
