So, let me start with this nugget of truth - Briqueville is a band that will scare the shit out of you, guaranteed! On the surface, they are seemingly yet another band wearing masks (now done duly to death). However, they have been wearing their black Nazgûl-robes and golden masks for over 10 years already, placing them vaguely ahead in the scene when considering contemporary acts like GHOST. Rumour has it they even wear their masks in band practice to attain a pure sense of focus on the music itself (and if lessons are to be learned from the recent escapades of Mr. Tobias Forge, aka Papa Emeritus from GHOST, then it is also an easy way to swop-out band members without any aggravation *snicker*).

This band of unidentified artists are shrouded in a sinister cloud of myth and mystery … in fact very little is known about the members of Briqueville. What I can however tell you is that these guys can raise some seriously sonic-and-spooky hell. Their latest offering, aptly entitled 'II', will be released on 29 September 2017 via Pelagic Records. This follow up (from their self-titled 2014 album), comprises of 3 lengthy acts, collectively spanning over 40 minutes of sheer instrumental malice. Eerie sampled chants are contrasted with uncanny guitars, creating a wall of sound that could easily be the soundtrack to an old Grindhouse Movie.

The video for 'Akte VI' (Watch Below) seems to support the story that the members of Briqueville originally met in an old School Building, where an old man told them a story of a son murdering his father at the entrance of that school. He apparently legitimized his story with a newspaper article. Briqueville kept asking themselves why someone would keep such an article with them for seventy years. They concluded the man they met must have been the son (wowsers)! Briqueville were thereafter unable to trace that old man and the incident seemingly serves as inspiration for their sound and this video. The video is dark and disturbing and an impeccable visual companion to the ominous composition.

The album is overall genius and demands attention. I really look forward to seeing them go from strength-to-strength, so buckle up and go take a listen to the spooky Briqueville!
