It took two days to set up the stage for this epic celebration. The sound and visual displays were incredible and the execution of it all, amidst loadshedding, was simply perfection.
Imagine that 21 years ago, a bunch of kids got together in a garage and they had one dream - to be in a band.
Sound engineer David Ter Steeger recalls how Marco would ask him to listen to their music: “It was shit. I told him to work harder or give it up.” Ross reflects on how recording companies rejected them one after the other: “It’s a hard industry. Half of the time we believed in ourselves and the other half the fans got us to the next step”.
In November 2003, the internationally acclaimed band LIVE invited Prime Circle as the opening act. Almost as a premonition, the lyrics of 'Hello' would ring true: Something’s got to change, something’s got to go my way! This was the break that they had been waiting for.
A few studio albums followed, including Jekyll and Hyde, which was recorded in 2010. The album included the track 'Never gonna bring us down' and opened doors to the European market. Prime Circle subsequently earned an MK Award in 2011 in the category of "International Break Through Act".
Although these were the two defining moments for Prime Circle, they launched Prime Fest Music Festival in 2018, collaborating with various artists and expanding their fan base.
Ross, Marco, Dale, Dirk and Neil are not those kids anymore. They have taken their music on endless roads, through various continents, and have seen different corners of the world.
They have earned the loyalty of their fans and they deserve to celebrate their success, not only for surviving one of the toughest industries but for being South Africa’s greatest rock band!
